There are Aggies in Alaska!

Cold overcast day today and it threatened to rain.  Abby went shopping in the waterfront shops and I went fishing in the Lowe river.

The pink salmon are so thick that virtually every other cast hooked a salmon.  I fished for about an hour until my arms got tired from all the salmon.

Drove back to the RV and walked down the breakwater and fished in the sound.  Caught several small cod and hooked what I think was a salmon.  I'll never know as it didn't even slow down and is now swimming in the sound with a large "daredevil" lure hooked in his mouth.

The Women's Silver Salmon Derby got off to a slow start today.  Small fish were the norm.  Hopefully tomorrow works out better.

This is the Valdez version of "rush hour".

These are the boats returning from the Salmon Derby interspersed with departing boats .

The big "boat" in the background is a oil pollution service barge that is being "pushed" by a special tug.
We are located right next to the entrance to the harbor so we see every boat coming and going big or small.

This funny looking boat's job is to load the fish guts from the cleaning tables in the marina and dump them in the sound.

Late this afternoon, the Coast Guard launched one of their boats on a rescue mission.  Apparently once they got on scene they discovered another boat had responded and taken the distressed boat under tow.
Notice the "Alaska" is the boat doing the towing and he is going backwards!  Must be an AGGIE!

Tomorrow the weather forecast is for 80% chance of rain.  Abby and I are going fishing with a retired Coast Guardsmen on his boat tomorrow morning.  Hopefully the weather will hold off for a bit.

Ciao!
