Still raining

Arrived in Seward yesterday in the rain and it rained hard all night and has slacked off to a gentle continuous rain.

They were calling for 40-60 mph winds gusting to 80 mph from 9 PM through this morning about 30 miles up the road.  We hit some of that while driving from Ninilchik yesterday.  Took it slow in some places as the RV has a rather large "sail" area.

We stopped at the Princess Resort and RV park on the way to see my sister-in-laws (Peggy) sister who works there.  As luck has it, her sister was in Seward!  Tight driving to get out of there but luckily we didn't have to unhook the car.

While I was getting propane yesterday, Abby got a call from the "Spot Connect" people telling us they were shipping my new unit via FedEx overnight.  This is the device we use to send our daily location and can be used to send a SOS message with our location no matter where we are.   The representative didn't understand why we wanted it shipped to Alaska when our home address was The Woodlands.  Abby explained we were TRAVELING in our RV.  He said that makes sense.  WHERE DO THEY GET THESE PEOPLE!

Today the 4 of us went to the Seward Sea Life Center for a couple of hours.  Very educational displays and multiple large aquariums with Alaskan sea life. This center was created as a result of the Exxon Valdez oil spill.

I was tempted to go out to the car and get my fishing gear as the term "ducks in a rain barrel" kept running through my head.

The weather is really slowing down the charter boats.  They stop the boats going out when the seas are 7 feet.  They were 21 feet today.  They are not expecting to restart the charter boats until Friday.

For my pilot friends, weather conditions look to be about 100' overcast, with rain and visibility variable 1/2 to 2 miles.  We are in an area nestled between several mountains but you wouldn't know it as they are not visible.

Ken  and I are "chomping at the bit" as the Silvers are massing in the harbor and this rain should start them up the rivers.

This is a beautiful "Army Resort" for active duty and retired military.  Just wish they could get the wifi to work on a regular basis.  Very spotty and very slow so not many pictures for awhile.

Just a few of the sights at the Seward Wildlife Center.
