Made it to Denver

Some have asked us why we are traveling so few miles every day.  The reason is we received a notice a couple days before we left The Woodlands that the refrigerator in the RV has a safety problem and needs to be repaired under a recall.  I was told it would take 10 days to get the parts and there was no guarantee of that time frame.  I called ahead to various cities on our route and was able to schedule an appointment in Denver Tuesday morning.

We spent last night in Raton, New Mexico and drove to Denver today. During the drive yesterday we saw more Antelopes than cars.  A very peaceful drive and the repairs to the Kayak carrier worked so we still have that with us.

Before we left Raton this morning we watched a hot air ballon launch from 200 yards away with 3 biker buddies we met this morning.

They were camping in tents and didn't have a coffee pot so Abby provided fresh coffee for the launch.  Former military guys living in Chugwater, Wyoming.  Interesting crew.  We loved the Jane Fonda patch one had on his vest.  Very appropriate.  Before they left, I gave them some tomatoes from the Jensen garden.

The weather was spectacular the last 2 days.  Middle to low 80's and 7% humidity.

Stella has become a very particular RV traveler.  Abby makes a little cave for Stella during the drive with a blanket from her footrest to the dash.  Abby thought she might be a little warm today and opened an AC vent.  A minute later, Stella came flying out, jumped on the dash(she never gets on the dash while we are driving) and gave Abby the evil eye.  Abby closed the vent and Stella returned to her spot.

Spencer alternates between my lap and Abby's when he is not sleeping behind Abby's chair.

Driving through Denver we spotted a pickup truck parked between 2 interstates on a severe slope.  In the bed of the truck was a cow!  We don't have a clue how the truck OR cow got there.

Tomorrow we will see if the RV dealer has a cancellation and can get us in so we can move on.

Trip stats.  1063 miles driven. 141 gallons of diesel purchased at an average of $3.87 a gallon.  Due to crosswinds the third day our mpg is only 7.4.  Approx 4000 miles until we get to Anchorage.
