Alaska time isn't time for wifi

We enjoyed our time at Denali NP.  The last day we spent the day hiking in the park and in the visitor center where they had a very extensive educational display of the various animals and plants in the 6 million acre park.

Abby took these pictures of the display of animal “scat” identification.  She thought Ken “scatman” Arthur was a little deficient in his identification qualifications.

We found this Robbin while hiking and at first thought it was dead.  Apparently it is a publicity hound.  It sat still for several pictures and when Abby was finished, it flew away.

We spent 4 nights in Anchorage at Elmendorf AFB.  A very nice campground with a great staff.  No wifi in the campground but it was available by driving to the base exchange (department store) and sitting in the food court.  It was good to spend time with the military again and reacquaint ourselves with the sacrifices our military members make on a daily basis.  Even after spending over 20 years on active duty, it is too easy to forget what our service members sacrifice for our comfort and safety.

Saturday was spent sightseeing in downtown Anchorage and trying to find someone who could repair Ken’s air conditioning system for his truck.  Apparently very few places have the tools necessary to repair air conditioners and they require your “first born” as a deposit to even look at the problem.  Of course when it is 56 degrees outside it is hard to talk to someone with a straight face about the need for air conditioning.  Ken found the parts but not the vacuum pump necessary to purge the system.
Sunday we were able to do some fishing on the base and Abby caught a couple of small grayling but were too small to keep.

We spent Monday getting the RV serviced at the local Freightliner dealer.  Oil change, chassis lube etc. at what turned out to be a very reasonable price.  I found the necessary parts to repair the nuisance water leak and will complete the repairs this week.

We drove to Ninilchik Tuesday  morning  planning to spend at least a week at the Alaskan Angler RV Resort. We spent a few days there in 2006 with my daughter and her family and really enjoyed our stay. It is owned by John Baker who is a retired Air Force F-15 pilot.  John also runs 5 boats in charter business fishing for Halibut and Salmon.  The weather looks good for the week so hopefully we will begin to fill up the freezer we have been hauling around on the back of Abby’s jeep.

We got to the campground yesterday only to find out their wifi is DOWN!  Doesn’t anything modern work in Alaska?  This morning we drove 40 milesto Homer at the local Safeway/Starbucks and their wifi is DOWN!  This is being sent from the Homer Public Library where the connection is slllloooowwwww, but workable.

We got 6 weeks of mail today so we are spending the day at the library slllooooowwwwwly paying bills.

Ken and Debby are camping on the beach.  They were given several pounds of fresh halibut by some people who ran out of room in their freezer.  Last night we enjoyed the fresh caught halibut by bar-b-que on our grill at the RV.  More halibut tonight!
